Kelvin at the Executive Policy Committee - THE BIG ONE!

We will definitely be headed to EPC on Wednesday, January 10th, at 9AM. The EPC meets on the second floor of the City Hall Council Building. We'd like as many concerned residents to come out as possible, because a strong showing gives our messages much more power.

If you know ANYONE who can attend the meeting (not just Kelvin-area residents), please tell them about it. We need support from everyone who feels that community centres need to be supported.

I agree with this group fighting city hall. I believe that the bylaws of the greater winnipeg community club council were violated by the very governing body that was to operate within. I know another club who was in the same situation 3 years ago yet it followed protocol and took out ads and had a second meeting to determine if quorum could be had, and it was and this other club was spared, were as kelvin was closed in the regular course of business this of course is not hte democrat ic way, it Katz way of meeting the perdetermined goal of 50 clubs and anyone who is in area were clubs dont meet the Katz criteria there get closed or sold to private interest. such as the case in elmwood my sources tells me that east elmwood will close in 2008, chalmers is being sold to doublew A baseball(closure of the youth drop in centre), Bronx and Good Neighbours have yet to reach a consenses board of the new organization( this traslates into more delays before a plan can be presented to the comunity), Melrose to close in 2009 as well as morse place in the elmwood, east kildonan area. To bad russ wyatt has his head in the clouds the same sources tell me that east end and Oxford height by 2010, now why did federal money come into the city for community club development???

In response to the Winnipeg Sun Feb 13, 2007 article in reference to the clubs doors closing prematurely. Kelvin Community Center is the first of many community clubs to be closed in the future, coming from anonymous sources. I truly hope the surrounding residents in Elmwood band together and fight this evil injunction set by the Katz governing body. Many people in the community rely on this building, sure it might not be the prettiest of buildings, but many people in the area that walk through the doors and the others that rely on the beneficial programs offered, are the ones that will truly feel the aftermath of the doors being closed forever. Kelvin Community Center represents the people of the community, the Heart & Soul of the Elmwood community. I’m asking that people step forward and stop this unethical closing of our Kelvin Community Center.
